We are pleased to be promoting another path - Glen of Rait to Dalreichmoor via Shanry.  You can get details here.   This path can be combined with a walk on quiet roads through the Sidlaw hills returning past Evelick and Kilspindie to give a route that is over 6 miles long.

Main Street

The village of Inchture lies surrounded by rich farmland between the Sidlaw hills and the Tay estuary. As its name suggests, it probably once stood on higher ground in the days when the River Tay allegedly ran on the north side of the Carse of Gowrie.

In the 18th century the area was extensively drained by local landowners who planted orchards of apples, plums and pears.  Hence there is an extensive network of pows,  some of which have potential to be incorporated into a circular walk.

Red sandstone building

The village was rebuilt along the line of a new toll road in the early 19th century. There are still many traditional red stone buildings in the picturesque centre.

The Gothic church, which dates from 1834, is large for such a small village.

Giant redwoods

Inchture also boasts a grove of magnificent redwoods next to the school. To find out more about the history of these giant trees, click here.
