Abernyte nestles quietly in the Braes of the Carse overlooking the Tay. The village has its own web site (www.abernyte.org) which is well worth a visit. It has interesting and diverse information about Abernyte district, its history and community activities.

The current village was called originally Balfour with the original Abernyte village located some 400 yards to the south.

The current school building celebrated its centenary in 2006 and beside it stands the old school house which dates from the mid 18th century and was the school and school master’s house.

The old church has its origins in medieval times although the current building dates from the 18th century. There are interesting gravestones dating from the mid 18th century.

Currently a number of projects for walks around the area are under consideration.
