Abernyte Community has been awarded £7112 to carry out improvements to the Glebe Millennium Walk.  This grant has been awarded by the Big Lottery Fund Breathing Places Campaign. Abernyte Community Company is very excited and pleased to receive this award and looks forward to working with the Heritage Group and wider community in planning and implementing the works. Volunteers are most welcome.   Watch their website for more details coming soon.

We are pleased to be promoting another path - Glen of Rait to Dalreichmoor via Shanry.  You can get details here.   This path can be combined with a walk on quiet roads through the Sidlaw hills returning past Evelick and Kilspindie to give a route that is over 6 miles long.

Kinnaird, Flawcraigs, Fingask and Rait - routes

Description

This is a very attractive route that incorporates the Ballindean path into a round walk using quiet country roads.

Distance 2.7 miles
Parking Please take care not to block access, particularly to fields.

Glen of Rait to Dalreichmoor via Shanry

The path lies to the north-west of Rait and Kilspindie and lies within the Braes of the Carse.  The start of the path from the Glen of Rait road is marked with a footpath sign to Gasconhall.  At Dalreichmoor the start of the path is labelled to ‘Shanry’.

Description

The route from the Glen of Rait road via Shanry to Dalreichmoor is a very attractive off-road path with wonderful views over the Carse and Tay towards Fife and to the north the Grampians.  You can incorporate this path into a circular walk using public roads that are fairly quiet and free of traffic.  The paths has some steep sections.   At present the route is only suitable for pedestrian use, due to sections with difficult ground conditions  Horse riders and cyclists are advised to avoid the track until further notice.

Distance

The path from the Rait Road via Shanry to Dalreichmoor is 2 miles.  If you make this a circular route returning past Evelick and Kilspindie, the route is 6.1 miles returning to the same starting point.  If you make this a circular route via Dalreichmoor returning to the same starting point, the route is 4.25 miles. 

Parking

There are plenty of places to park by the public road on this route to provide various starting points and alternative routes, but please take care not to block passing places and access to fields.

Special precautions

The LMC footpath is marked with a few arrow and ‘Footpath’ signs.  It passes through two farmyards where you should take care and through several gates that you should close after use.  The circular routes incorporate a long section on minor public roads, please please be alert to any traffic.  At the moment sections are not suitable for horses due to ground conditions.
