Errol Station Link

Construction of the path from Errol village to Errol Station is now complete and the path is being well used.  A small problem appears to be damage to the verges from rabbits or horses.  Path users are asked to help with maintenance by tramping in holes.  A formal opening ceremony will follow later  this summer.  The project is being funded by the Scottish Government & the European Community Rural Tayside LEADER 2007-2013 Programme, Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust, Perth & Kinross Quality of Life Trust and COGG.

Perth - Willowgate Right of Way

Work is underway to improve a very old right of way that includes a riverside path link from Perth City to the cafe and fishery at Willowgate, situated on the banks of the Tay beside Walnut Grove and the Friarton Bridge on the East Edge of Perth. Willowgate was formerly a working salmon station operated by, and still controlled by Tay Salmon Fisheries.

View of the CarseThe West Carse area contains some of the most dramatic and attractive landscape within the Carse of Gowrie including several iconic Perthshire views such as that of the Kinnoull tower which features on the Homepage of this site.  Click here or on picture for a larger version.

As a roughly triangular shaped area, with its apex in Perth, it is bounded to the North by the high land connecting Kinnoull Hill through Deuchny Hill to Glencarse Hill and to the South by the River Tay.

The high land to the north is well served by a network of established paths and bridleways which are very popular with walkers, horse riders and off road cyclists. Work is ongoing to maintain and improve the pathways and upgrade educational facilities. For extensive details of the pathways, wildlife and fauna contained within this area, visitors are recommended to visit the excellent Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park Users Group Website.

The West Carse area is effectively divided longitudinally by the A90 dual carriageway which makes north to south traverses difficult and limits the opportunities to develop pathway links between the river Tay and land to the North. The main exception to this is the Coronation Walk which links the River Tay from opposite Elcho Castle to Scone by way of the Kinfauns A90 interchange, Kinfauns village and Deuchny  Wood.

The riverside itself represents a real gem of an asset which is currently not able to be utilised to any great extent due to fairly significant physical access limitations not least of which is the Perth to Dundee railway line. All this is set to change however through the efforts of the Tay Salmon Fisheries Co. Ltd who have major plans to open up access to the river over the coming years and to reinstate former passageways along the river bank. A selection of river views which include details of improvement works to date can be found here
